Email: ddawson@cityofbouldermt.com

Drew is Boulder native.  His father, Nifty, was postmaster for many years and a Boulder valley rancher.  His mother, Margaret, was a long-time Jefferson County High School teacher.  Drew graduated from Jefferson County High School and from the University of North Dakota.  He attended graduate school at the University of Colorado.

Drew’s vocation and avocation are improving health services with a particular emphasis on emergency medical services.  He was a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician and Director of the Boulder Ambulance Service for over twenty years, served as Montana’s State EMS Training coordinator for several years and as the Montana State EMS Director for over twenty years.  Drew was Chief of the Health System Bureau for the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services where he oversaw the State Office of Primary Care, Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention Section, Office of Public Health Systems Improvement and the Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Section.

In 2003, Dawson transitioned from Montana to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington, D.C. where he oversaw the emergency medical services activities of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and their leadership role in the nation’s EMS system including the development and implementation of many national EMS programs and activities and the National 911 program.  He retired from Federal service in October 2015 and returned to Boulder where he became active in community development activities including chair of the Boulder Transition Advisory Council.  In 2017, he began serving as the Interim Executive Director of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians – the National Certification agency for EMTs – a position he held in September 2018.

Dawson was elected to the Boulder City Council in November 2017. He continues to be active in a variety of community development activities.

I was born in Butte MT, though my growing up years were spent in California, Washington, Colorado and back to Boulder in the late 1960's with elementary school from 7th through my senior year at JHS. I graduated from Jefferson High School in 1971 and left for Seattle for the next 23 years, then returned to Boulder to take my place along with my husband Burdette Anderson at the Free Enterprise Radon Health Mine from 1994-2014. Additionally, I’ve owned and operated a motel in Boulder and a Seattle eatery - the Lake Route Café (now known as ‘Drae’s Lake Route’) - which was once voted the “best place for bicyclists to eat breakfast”. I’ve served on community boards to include Jefferson Broadband, Jefferson Local Development Corporation, Jefferson High School, the Jefferson County Tax Increment Finance District, the City’s Cemetery Committee & the Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce. After a short 2 months of retirement, a part time job as office manager at the Boulder Monitor continues to keep me grounded in the community. When not in that office at the Monitor (Monday, Wednesday & Friday), you may find me working on projects for the Boulder Area Chamber of Commerce. Boulder’s City Council Ward 2 is important to me, and I hope to bring opportunities to benefit the residents here. I am a pickleball fanatic and enjoy bicycling, swimming, walking, sweeping sidewalks and aging as gracefully as possible.

Councilman Bear Taylor

Term Expires: 12/31/2028

Email: mtnomad2015@gmail.com

After being born and raised in Utah, Bear moved to Boulder in 2015 with his wife who is a Boulder native, and their three children. While in Utah, he was an avid outdoorsman, off-road enthusiast, and volunteered time with various non-profit organizations. He worked many years as a heavy equipment operator and later as a salesman and fabricator in the off-road and restoration industry. Bear previously worked at MDT as a maintenance technician in Boulder, and recently accepted a position as the Road Department Supervisor for Jefferson County. “I have always had a difficult time saying no when asked to volunteer, and joined with Boulder and Bull Mountain Fire Departments shortly after we moved to Boulder.” Bear is also known for his role as the community Santa Claus participating in events with area schools, city and Kiwanis Club.

“As we became more settled and welcomed into the community, I knew I wanted to do my part to ensure Boulder was a community my family would want to grow old in.  It is my hope, that while serving our community, that I can help us grow our infrastructure while maintaining the small town atmosphere that we all enjoy.”
